Coordinators

The dramatool project is administered and run by the Eastern Africa Theater Institute (EATI) and the Swedish National Organisation for Authorised Drama Pedagogues(RAD). There are two national project coordinators and web administrators from each EATI member countries of Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and one from Sweden who coordinate, undertake and facilitate the activites.

Ethiopia


Abinet Getachew: abinet.getachew@dramatool.org

31, theatre practitioner mainly an actor for the company called Mekuria Theatre studio and Entertainment (MTSE). MTSE is one of the founding and constituent of The Eastern African Theatre Institute (EATI). I live in Addis Ababa, the capital of Africa. Earned first degree in 'Theatre Arts' from Addis Ababa University faculty of language studies in July 1999. Have been columnist for a local news paper and contributed a number of articles on politics, culture and environment as a fulltime journalist for one and half year. Since February 2002 to date work as project coordinator and web administer for EATI/ENC (MTSE) drama tool project.


Meaza Worku: meaza.worku@dramatool.org

In 2000 I graduated from Addis Ababa University in Theater Arts. Since then, I am working as a theater practitioner in different organizations. I once was an actor, directed Television drama and wrote different short Radio dramas. I was also a journalist in one of local Radio station. Now I am working on drama tool project as a coordinator starting from late 2003.Iam interested in any activities of performing arts.

Kenya


Amadi Atsiaya: amadi.atsiaya@dramatool.org

I am a Nairobi based theatre practitioner with a bias towards African Storytelling. My other interest is experimenting with the fusion of non-mainstream performative forms with the conventional theatre forms and the academic interpretation of performance in its various facets and how this bears on the human society; and the interplay of technology and the performing arts.


Catherine Kariuki: catherine.kariuki@dramatool.org

Catherine is an experienced theatre practitioner with a theatre history spanning over 25 years as an actress and theatre educator. She has been actively involved in different genres of theatre including films, TV, radio and stage plays as an actress, director, stage manager, costume manager etc. In theatre, she enjoys working with the disadvantaged children especially street children. Her dream is to use theatre to bring positive change in our society. She has been instrumental in forging useful networks for artists across the East African region and internationally. Currently she is one of the board members of the Institute of Performing Artists Limited, a theatre organization, based in Kenya. She has been involved in Dramatool since its birth and currently is one of the coordinators in Kenya. She is also the current secretary of IDEA. Catherine is also a management-training consultant.

Sweden


Åsa Peterson: asa.peterson@dramatool.org

I am a dramapedagogue working at the secondary school in the west coast of Sweden close to Gothenburg. The last 17 years I have been using drama and theatre as a tool for empowerment mainly with youths. I am very interested in exchanging experiences through the internet but also through exchange programmes. I am also an elected officer in IDEA, International Drama/Theater and Education Association as the Director of Solidarity.

Tanzania


Kiswigu Bernad: kiswigu.bernad@dramatool.org

I have performed in many productions. Specialized in Arts and Culture Management, as a consultant I have participated in seminars and social work projects. I have been very active in Ant-Aid compaigns through education and theatre. A tutor at Bagamoyo College of arts and director of Bagamoyo Women Artists (BAWA). As a theatre practitioner, my research covers areas of theatre for Community and art for development.


Richard Mziray: richard.mziray@dramatool.org

Apart from being a Dramatool coordinator for Tanzania National Chapter in the Dramatool project, I work as drama musician in the field of Theatre. I'm a professional practitioner holding a diplomma of theatre awarded by the College of Arts, Bagamoyo Tanzania- East Africa.

I love people and Art, and so I'm ready to collaborate with any theatre artist from any part of this globe.Listening to music is my daily life, I love slow and hard beats because it is my major source of getting insipiration.

Uganda


Allen T Naturinda: allen.t.naturinda@dramatool.org

Iam a theatre practitioner and a drama teacher. I am a University graduate with a degree in Drama from Makerere University. I have worked with several communities in Uganda under different NGOs. Among the communities are those from the internally displaced camps using drama and theatre as a tool for social transformation. Since 2002 I have been working as a Dramatool Coordinator Uganda.Iam interested in interacting with fellow artistes and I would like to see them using the modern technology to reach out to the rest of artistes out there!


Bernard Mukisa: bernard.mukisa@dramatool.org

Born in Iganga, eastern Uganda. Teacher, holds Diploma in Music, Dance and Drama at Makerere University and MA in Theatre Directing from the Belarusian University of Culture, Minsk. Studied Internet networking, web administration & editing, Project Planning and Management. Coordinator, dramatool Uganda. Working with school drop-out victims through use of play, folk music, dance, puppetry to rekindle their hopes for a better future. Enjoy reading about the Folklore of different countries. Hobbies: Church Choir, photography, reading and watching soccer.
