Cinema has a long history in Ethiopia. The first film was shown in Ethiopia in 1898 during the era of Emperor Menelik I when most European towns did not know anything about movies. It is therefore a pity that an indigenous film industry did not develop in the country. Ethiopia is however endowed with most of things required to build a flourishing film industry.
