The drama of our story

A new play: It’s Just You And Me and My Wife and Your Boyfriend / Ke ’Na le Uena, Mosali oa ka Le Mohlankana oa Hau Feela was recently performed in Roma, Maseru and Malealea, Lesotho. The play explored tensions associated with choices, chances and changes in relation to power, denial, and stigma associated with HIV/Aids.

The Rural Woman

There are many groups formed in rural villages that are trying various activities. These groups should be trained in community theatre skills in order to carry out programs aimed at empowering women and equipping them with entrepreneurship skills. These programs should give the women the confidence they need to face their challenges.

Atuki Turner, in the New Vision of 26-03-2008 says, ‘Women should make every day a Women’s Day by fighting for their rights and fighting violence. They should know they have the right to refuse their daughter to be taken out of school or married off early. That they have the right to refuse to be inherited by their husband’s brother and that they have the right to look after their children, property and land.’

The basis of theatre is the presence of a human actor, a kind of human presence that is elicited from actors- how it is stimulated, how it connects to collective or individual audience psyches creating a mysterious X factor referred to as Charm or human spirit, or aura, or presence. There is simply nothing like the immediacy of live theatre to get people talking, interacting and exchanging ideas” which provides a practical point of view towards appreciation of theatre in development processes.
